We don't have cars on the street where we live, but other parts of the city do.

The machine has a longer reach than you might imagine. The driver has video cameras on the side of the vehicle which he uses to align fairly accurately with the bin.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-225087846795766487.post-43213467255619979052008-06-25T05:28:00.000+01:002008-06-25T05:28:00.000+01:00I'm very grateful for your comments David. That bin emptying machine on your site looks impressive, but I don't suppose it would work with on-street parking.

In general I would say that we have a lot to learn from the Netherlands so any further links and comments based on your experience of living there will be very welcome.Chris Hutthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01532451004057748734noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-225087846795766487.post-2108174014754794352008-06-24T08:50:00.000+01:002008-06-24T08:50:00.000+01:00Dare I post again so soon. You may be aware that deposits on bottles are still used in the Netherlands, and that recycling rates are high here (the link on my name goes to a webpage which shows some of the ways this is done).

However, there's more. Cars are sold with a "deposit" on them to pay for disposal too. So, the scourge of burnt out old cars as we seemed to suffer in the UK a few years ago when steel wasn't worth so much hasn't happened here, at least since the 70s when that policy was introduced.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
